VINYL RECORD AND SLEEVE GRADING
MINT (M)
Absolutely perfect in every way.Certainly has never been played, possibly even still sealed. The record should show no obvious signs of wear.Sleeves should have no more than the most minor defects, such as almost invisible ring wear or other signs of handling.Sleeves should have no split seams, folds, creases.Basically it should look as if it had been bought new from the record shop.
VERY GOOD +(VG+)
Record will show signs that it has been played and otherwise handled by a previous owner who took good care of it.It will show signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that do not affect listening experience.Slight warps that do not affect sound is also o.k.The label may have some ring wear, writing or discoloration but should be barely noticeable. The centre hole will not have been mis-shapen by repeated play.Picture sleeves will have some slight wear, lightly turned up corners,or a slight seam split.
VERY GOOD(VG)
Record may have surface noise ,especially evident in soft passages and during a song's intro and fade but will not overpower the music totally.Groove wear will start to be noticeable,as with light scratches and may affect sound.Labels may be marred or have tape or stickers on them(also residue from when they have been removed). As in the description of labels this would be the same of picture sleeves.
GOOD (G)
Arecord in Good condition can be put on a turntable and will play without skipping but will have significant surface noise and scratches and visible groove wear, which may be starting to turn white.A cover or sleeve will have seam splits, especially to the bottom or on the spine.Tape, writing, ring wear or other defects will start to overwhelm the object.
POOR (P)
The record is cracked, badly warped and won't even play through without skipping or repeating. The sleeve is water damaged, split on all three seams and heavily marred by wear and writing.
We give a separate grade to the record and it's sleeve(if picture or company sleeve). The record grade comes first followed by the sleeve,if plain sleeve we do not grade and it will have N/A.
